1971 UNITED STATES IN SPACE


J-37a August 2, 1971 Twin Space stamps commemorating a decade of achievements in space issued on the date of the Apollo XV Moon Flight at Huntsville, Alabama. Huntsville was the site of the development and manufacture of the four-wheeled battery-driven moon car called the Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV). Our rendition of "Rover" is the painting on this cover. The numis is a bronze Apollo XV medal struck by the Lombardo Mint of Canada. A matching pair of stamps is mounted in the reverse of the cover. 30 produced. Scott 1435b.


J-37b August 2, 1971 Twin Space stamps were issued in Houston, TX, site of the tracking station. The painting of Earth, as seen from the surface of the Moon, is the subject. The numis is the Lombardo Mint bronze Apollo XV medal. A matching pair of mint stamps is mounted in the reverse of the cover. 30 produced. Scott 1435b.


J-37b August 2, 1971 Twin Space stamps were also issued at Kennedy Space Center, Florida. The painting was inspired by a photograph of Neil Armstrong about to take that historic first step for mankind onto the surface of the Moon. A bronze Apollo XV medal is the numis. A matching pair of mint stamps is mounted in the reverse of the cover. 30 produced. Scott 1435b.
